C1 - Addiction Recovery

13 Hours

Goal:


To expand the participant's thinking to support the idea of treating the disease of addiction vs. specific addictive disorders.

To incorporate principals that validate the impact of family of origin pathological behavior on the addict today.

To focus on specific recovery strategies.

Objective:


The counselor will be able to discuss the rational for treating the disease of addiction.

The participant will be able to describe 5 specific non-resourceful behaviors or roles some members of dysfunctional families get stuck in prior to treatment.

The participant will be able to describe 3 treatment strategies for dealing with addiction and codependency.

C2 - Genograms in Family Assessment

10 Hours

Goal:


To demonstrate the usefulness of Genograms as an effective assessment, treatment and ongoing treatment planning tool for working with family of origin issues in recovery.

Objective:


The student will be able to identify multi-generational family issues i.e.; addiction, abuse, moves, deaths, traumas, illness etc. and be better prepared to make more accurate short and long range treatment and after care plans.

The student will be able to discuss the connection between today's behavior and behavior carried down for generations.

C3 - Compulsive Gambling - An Overview

3 Hours

Goal:


To define compulsive gambling behaviors, assessment tools, family of origin issues & treatment strategies.

Objective:


The student will be able to describe the difference between compulsive gambling and problem gambling behaviors.

The student will be able to discuss the South Oaks Gambling Screen.

The student will be able to examine the influence of family traits and behaviors in creating an effective treatment and after care plan.

The student will be able to distinguish between cognitive therapies and a 12 step approach to treatment.

C4 / C4a - Grief/Loss in Addiction Recovery

10 Hours / 3 Hours

Goal:


To assist counselors in learning a step by step approach to help clients successfully release the pain they have attached to past painful incomplete relationships.  Relationships can include but are not limited to: onset of and recovery from addictive behaviors and lifestyles, going to and being released from jail, war, incest/abuse issues, trauma, death, unresolved childhood issues.

Objective:


Students will be able to discuss a 6 step process aid clients in effectively releasing the pain of their past.

Participants will be able to define grief to include losses other than death.

Participants will be able to explain the use of time line therapy in this process.

Participants will be able to discuss how the many myths people are taught about not feeling their feelings of loss interrupt their healing.

  • Michael Yeager has created a 60 hour Professional Certification Training Program for working with this population. It incorporates western and eastern approaches to healing. C4 is a 10 hour course, and C4a is a 3 hour shorter version of the same course.

C5 - Sexual Harassment

12 Hours

A MUST for any counselor working with women.

Goal:


To assist counselor in identifying and treating the victims (usually women) of this wide spread and mostly unresolved type of sexual abuse. 

To address the laws that protect the victim and the perpetrator and focus on problems experienced by the victim in the workplace, at home and in society. 

To expose the impact of the wrongful use of power and control.

Objective:


The student will be able to discuss the psychological impact of this type of abuse.

The participant will be able to site specific legal actions available for the client.

The counselor will be able to discuss 3 treatment strategies useful in healing from this abuse.
