C21 / C21a / C21b / C21c - Professional Ethics 

15 Hours / 3 Hours /  4 Hours / 2 Hours
  • This course addresses ethics as a guide for health care professionals and massage therapist. It is divided into 4 choices.  The 15 hour course is designed for mental health care professional, the 3 and 4 hour versions are shorter versions of the 15 hour course and the 2 hour course is designed for the massage therapist.

This course will address the ethical dilemmas in the healthcare field. Michael addresses ethics as a guide for these professionals to establish healthy relationships with their clients, agencies and community. The focus is on boundaries, the role of the helper, the right use of power, and client sensitivity. He will review a process to help professionals make ethically correct decisions regarding their behavior with the client.

C21 is a 15 hour course titled Professional Ethics and 

C21a is a 3 hour version              

c21b is a 4 hour version

C21c is a 2 hour version designed for Massage Therapists.

C22 - Overcoming Internalized Oppression

3 Hours

Goal:


The goal of this course is to offer an overview of cultural issues and the interaction between the peoples in the minority culture or gender and the majority culture or gender.

Objective:


Discuss levels of identification to ones cultural group.

Discuss barriers to communication found within and outside of a cultural group.

Define internalized oppression.

Interpret 3 resolution techniques that empower rather than disempower the victims of oppression.

C23 / C23a - Cultural & Gender Issues in Addiction Treatment

14 Hours / 3 Hours

Goal:


The goal of this course is to assist counselors of all races, gender & sexual orientation to become sensitive to the diversity of groups of peoples outside of and within their own group. 

To help raise awareness and offer specific skills to help identify & overcome personal biases & opinions that may interfere with the clients recovery process. 

To being to light issues of professional ethics and referral to help the counselor honor the clients needs.

Objective:


Explain how prejudice interrupts issues of safety in the counseling process.

Describe 2 cultural differences between Hispanic and Africa American clients.

Discuss 3 treatment approaches for Hispanic's with family issues.

C23 is a 14 hour course, and C23a is a 3 hour shorter version of the same course.

C24 / C24a - Drugs and the Brain (Pharmacology)

7 Hours / 2 Hours

Goal:


The goal of this course is to show very specifically with how drugs reach and interact with the brain and other body parts.

Objective:


Differentiate between depressants and stimulants.

Discuss the destructive power of nicotine, tobacco and smoking.

Demonstrate the physical aspects of addiction and speak directly to the disease concept.

C24 is a 7 hour course, and C4a is a 2 hour shorter version of the same course.

C25 - Alcohol - Answers, Myths, Facts

12 Hours
  • Dr. Raymond V. Haring, Ph.D., shares his insights about the dynamics and elements of alcohol and how it affects the human body.

Goal:


The goal of this course is to discuss issues around addiction, alcohol dependence, beliefs and treatment. 

To offer examples of screening tools, how alcohol effects the immune system and detoxification issues.

Objective:


Discuss the medical complications of barbiturate withdrawal.

Describe 2 screening tools used to diagnose alcoholism.
