C3a - Compulsive Gambling - An Overview     3-hours      $35.00

The Goal is to define compulsive gambling behaviors, assessment tools, family of origin issues & treatment strategies. The student will be able to describe the difference between compulsive gambling and problem gambling behaviors. The student will be able to discuss the South Oaks Gambling Screen. The student will be able to examine the influence of family traits and behaviors in creating an effective treatment and after care plan. The student will be able to distinguish between cognitive therapies and a 12 step approach to treatment.

 

C4a - Grief/Loss in Addiction Recovery         3-hours         $35.00

The goal of this 3-hour course is to assist counselors in learning an overview of a step by step approach to help clients successfully release the pain they have attached to past painful incomplete relationships.  Relationships can include but are not limited to: onset of and recovery from addictive behaviors and lifestyles, going to and being released from jail, war, incest/abuse issues, trauma, death, unresolved childhood issues.

Students will be able to discuss a 6 step process aid clients in effectively releasing the pain of their past. Participants will be able to define grief to include losses other than death. Participants will be able to explain the use of time line therapy in this process. Participants will be able to discuss how the many myths people are taught about not feeling their feelings of loss interrupt their healing.

C6a - Domestic Violence (Verbal Abuse)   3 Hours           $35.00

The Goals of this 3-hour course are To identify how power works in relationships.  To explore the concepts of Power Over vs. Personal Power. To identify family of origin setups for the development of these imbalances of power. To identify treatment strategies for the victim of this type of domestic violence.

The Goal of this 3-hour course is To explore how Working with people Living with AIDS offers a variety of challenges and solutions for health care providers. The student will be able to discuss medical reality of HIV/AIDS. The student will be able to explain 3 Alternative Healing Approaches. The participant will be able to describe 4 common Women's and Children's issues. Participants will be able to identify Legal and Ethical Concerns for the Provider and the one living with AIDS. The student will be able to discuss various grief issues for the one living with AIDS, the family of origin and extended family members.

C9a - Sexual Abuse & Incest                       3-hours          $35.00

The Goal of this 3-hour course is to introduce health care providers to issues specific to clients suffering from the effects of sexual abuse & incest.Participants will be able to describe how to treat male and female survivors of this trauma. The student will be able to define sexual abuse and how the definition applies to a variety of situations. Participants will be able to discuss sexual boundary violations and healing from these violations.

c10a - Treating Sexual Addiction                    3-hours        $35.00

The overall goal is to present the underlying causes of sexually addictive behaviors and discuss treatment strategies for recovery.  To end the stigma and shame associated with sexually addictive behaviors. Participants will be able to describe the 3 levels of sexual addiction. Participants will be able to construct an initial treatment plan for the sexual addict. The Goal of this course is to educate professionals working in the field of health care about the impact and treatment of victims of domestic violence.  To address its impact on the individual, the family unit, the workplace, society and violence in general.Identify the components found in cycle of abuse. c18 - Introduction to Dual Diagnosis                 6-hours     $60.00

This course will address various psychiatric disorders that may coexist with alcoholism. The purpose of this course is to expand the counselors knowledge about the complexities involved with the treatment of mental illness coexisting with the disease of addiction. Describe 3 symptoms found in Anxiety Disorders. Discuss the DSM-IV diagnostic criteria for alcoholism. Differentiate between drug induced psychoses and drug addiction behaviors.

This course will address the ethical dilemmas in the healthcare field. Michael addresses ethics as a guide for these professionals to establish healthy relationships with their clients, agencies and community. The focus is on boundaries, the role of the helper, the right use of power, and client sensitivity. The goal of this course is to show very specifically with how drugs reach and interact with the brain and other body parts.  Differentiate between depressants and stimulants. To educate participants about the physical and psychological problems occurring among patients suffering from AIDS, HIV, TB, Hepatitis B & C.The student will be able to identify physical and psychological symptoms of individuals who suffer from HIV, AIDS, TB, including multi-drug resistant TB, syphilis, and hepatitis B & C. The students will have the opportunity to be more sensitive to patients entering treatment programs who are at risk of having one or more of these diseases. The focus is on these particular infectious diseased because they occur frequently among treatment populations and have significant medical and socioeconomic consequences for infected persons and others if not recognized and treated.
